In 1977, YFCA was recognized and authorized by the Yemeni government as the first and exclusive marketer and distributer of contraceptives, on a national level, to all service provision centers, including those of the Ministry of Health

In 1980, YFCA carried out a study on available brands of contraceptives in the Yemeni market, which was the first of its kind in Yemen. The implementation of such campaign was not easy in a society where even talking about family planning seemed to be dangerous at that time. Nevertheless, YFCA considers the increasing contraceptive prevalence rate as a satisfactory compensation for its perilous endeavors to establish a contraceptive-market in Yemen followed by intensive programs that have lasted for decades with the aim of raising decision awareness and contributions to changing behaviors and perception within the families and community.

1990s

(YFCA) contributed to the adoption of the National Population Strategy and played the most prominent role in the production of the play of “Al-eyial Kothro” alongside the Ministry of Health and Yemen TV, as the first theater work of its kind in Yemen highlighting the issues of reproductive health, motherhood and childhood. (YFCA) organized in a number of governorates, including Aden, Taiz, Dhamar and Al Hodeidah, a lot of cultural events and various awareness seminars in the fields of health and social. (YFCA) distributed the means of family planning to 75 hospitals and health centers in all governorates of the Republic.

In October 1997, the (YFCA) launched the first mobile clinic before it developed into seven mobile clinics.

2000s

Within the entry of the new millennium, (YFCA) has entered a new phase and has embarked on new projects such as Safe Motherhood project, Expanding Reproductive Health Services Project through Civil Society Organizations, and Women Empowerment Project; moreover, YFCA had obtained the golden certificate in the quality of services, which is the first granted to a local organization in Yemen, in addition to forming new international partnerships.

2010s - Up to Date

Though of the security issues in the era, YFCA was able to overcome all challenges and was able to provide self-resources and expand its interventions in new areas, especially areas of conflict through new partnerships with the community and decision makers. Emphasis was placed at the beginning on reproductive health issues in emergencies and on GBV then it extended on other intervention sectors such as WASH, FSL, CCCM and Shelter. Strengthening the administrative and technical standard and quality management system (QMS) in YFCA by participating in the USAID-funded RGP project for the institutional strengthening program. During 2017-2018, YFCA witnessed another qualitative leap in partnerships and projects, both in terms of quality and quantity.
